Users on social networks have generated controversy by comparing fragments of a Taylor Swift song with a 1982 song by Luis Miguel, pointing out melodic similarities that have opened a debate among fans of both.
Taylor Swift’s recent album has been surrounded by controversy and divided commentary, to which is now added the comparison of the track ‘Opalite’ to Luis Miguel’s ‘1+1=2 enamorados’.
“I was listening to ‘Opalite’ by Taylor Swift and I felt like I had already heard it somewhere else… mamón (flipo) es ‘1+1=2 Enamorados’ by Luis Miguel,” wrote Fernando an X user.
Some users compared the situation to the case of Olivia Rodrigo and Paramore, when accusations of plagiarism arose due to similarities between Rodrigo’s song ‘Good 4 U’ and the American band’s ‘Misery Business’.

“I knew that ‘Opalite’ sounded identical to Luis Miguel’s ‘1+1= 2 enamorados’. It would be really interesting to see what’s up with this! Remember Paramore won the lawsuit against Olivia Rodrigo for less,” said another X user.
On Instagram, comparative videos between the two songs have proliferated. Some users highlight the parallels in the lyrics, as in these excerpts:
“Oh oh oh oh oh, oh my Lord / Never made no one like you before / You had to make your own sunshine / But now the sky is opalite”, by Swift and “Somos dos, dos enamorados, de un amor dulce, libre y claro, al soñar vamos poco a poco, encerrando el mundo entre las manos”, by Luis Miguel.
Is Luis Miguel suing Taylor Swift?
“Luis Miguel’s million-dollar lawsuit against Taylor is coming,” Elayni commented in a video on Instagram, while Emiliano highlighted that he preferred the Mexican’s song.
While many have been critical, others have been more optimistic, celebrating Swift’s inspiration from Mexican artists:
“When this song (‘Opalite’) plays we win Taylor Swift and Luis Miguel fans,” Maria wrote on Instagram next to an AI-generated image with both actors on a stage.

“My lovely Taylor was inspired by Luis Miguel himself for ‘Opalite’,” wrote another follower of the singer on social network X.
1+1=2 Enamorados’ is part of Luis Miguel’s debut album ‘Un Sol’ released in 1982. The song was composed by Rubén Amado and Javier Santos and was also popularized that same year in Spain in the voice of Pedro Marín, although the most famous was that of the Mexican.
On October 3, reported Agencia EFE, Swift released ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, an album that has divided opinions among fans and critics alike, marking her return to lighter pop, reported Agencia EFE.
