The President of the United States, Donald Trump, appeared to mock on Monday, September 22, the training of citizen militias in Venezuela, with the publication of a video where he comments, in an ironic tone, on the “very serious threat” they pose, amid the escalation of bilateral tensions.
“ULTRASECRETO: We have surprised the Venezuelan military in training. A very serious threat!”, Donald Trump wrote on his Social Truth network along with images of several civilian women receiving training from several Venezuelan military instructors, before shouts and laughter from onlookers.
Tensions escalate between Venezuela and the U.S.
The video, which illustrates the citizens’ training sessions as part of Caracas’ defense against the “threat” of the U.S. naval deployment in the Caribbean Sea, has been widely replicated on social networks this weekend.
Tensions between Venezuela and the U.S. have risen after Washington announced the sinking of four vessels suspected of being involved in drug trafficking in the Caribbean, near the Venezuelan coast.
At least three from Venezuela and the fourth of unknown origin.
Last Saturday, Trump warned that the government of Nicolás Maduro will pay an “incalculable” price.
This is if it does not readmit the “prisoners” it “has forced to go to the U.S.”.
U.S. reinforces military presence
In August, the United States increased its military presence in international waters in the Caribbean Sea, justifying the need to “combat drug trafficking”.
As well as with the focus on the Cartel of the Suns which, according to the Trump Administration, is led by President Maduro.
Meanwhile, the Venezuelan president announced that the trainings led by officers of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces(FANB) are carried out in response to the threat of the “North American empire”, against which the South American nation is more united than ever, according to EFE.
