Mexican actor Manuel Masalva, known for his role as Ramón Arellano Félix in the series Narcos: Mexico, reappeared on social networks on July 7, 2025, after having been in an induced coma for more than three months due to a serious bacterial infection contracted during a trip to the Philippines.
Masalva was emergency hospitalized in Dubai, where doctors identified the highly antibiotic-resistant Burkholderia bacteria, which complicated his treatment and led specialists to induce a coma to preserve his life.

“I want to deeply thank the support you gave me and continue to give me, in every way, to each and every one of you,” she began by writing.
“I believe more than ever that unity is strength. This has just begun, there is still a long way to go, but I feel blessed, strong, reborn and accompanied. God has given us a new opportunity for life, God has given me a new life,” he concluded.

During his hospitalization, Masalva’s family and friends started a GoFundMe campaign to cover the high medical expenses in Dubai.
The initiative was supported by colleagues in the artistic world such as Alfonso Dosal, Mario Morán and Nova Coronel, who requested financial support and prayers for the actor.
Thanks to the solidarity of his followers and the artistic community, the goal of one million Mexican pesos was surpassed.
Nova Coronel, a close friend of Masalva, reported that the actor has already started communicating via WhatsApp messages, indicating a notable improvement in his health condition.
