The Hispanic community in Arizona is mourning the death of Yarely Ashley Hermosillo, a 27-year-old influencer who was killed when she was struck by a stray bullet during a road rage dispute in the city of Glendale, less than 10 miles from Phoenix.

The incident occurred on Friday, August 15, 2025, around 11:45 p.m., when two drivers were involved in a traffic argument that escalated into a shooting. Hermosillo was not involved in the altercation; she was a passenger in a Chevrolet Equinox with her partner, 4-year-old son and mother when she was fatally struck in the head. She was transported to the hospital, but died shortly thereafter.

According to court documents, the dispute began when a Toyota Tundra had to brake abruptly after a GMC Sierra, driven by Jesus Preciado Dousten, 33, ran into it while exiting a private road.

After exchanging insults at a traffic light at the intersection of 51st Avenue and Camelback Road, Jesus Preciado Dousten pulled out a black gun and yelled in Spanish “¿Quieres de esto?”

Although he initially pointed in another direction, Jesus Preciado Dousten fired a bullet that ended up hitting the vehicle where Yareli Hermosillo was.

The passenger side window was punctured and the young woman was fatally struck.

Witnesses said that Jesus Preciado Dousten appeared confused and frightened after realizing what had happened.

He is being held on $1 million bail and his next court hearing is scheduled for the end of August.

Police confirmed that the incident was recorded on traffic cameras and that a friend of the suspect even stated that Jesus Preciado Dousten admitted to shooting during a “road rage” episode.

Yarely Hermosillo was known on social media for her lifestyle and recipe content on TikTok, where she had over 100,000 followers.

Her publications reflected her love of cooking, family and everyday life, connecting with a diverse audience in and outside of Arizona.

A GoFundMe campaign organized by her family described her as “a loving wife, dedicated mother and a beautiful soul whose light touched all who knew her.”

The fundraising, which already exceeds $16,000, seeks to cover funeral expenses and support her young son.

The pain of his family

At a Glendale police press conference on August 20, her partner, Daniel Salgado, spoke movingly about the loss.

Duele perder a tu otra mitad. Me parte el alma pensar en nuestro hijo, que se va a dormir sin poder acurrucarse con ella, o cuando caminamos y él espera que mamá salga de la casa como siempre lo hacía

Daniel Salgado, esposo de Yareli Hermosillo

The family thanked the expressions of solidarity and asked for justice for Yarely, stressing that her death was the result of a “senseless” act that took away a mother and wife in the prime of her life.

Road violence: a growing problem

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), road rage incidents have increased in recent years in the United States.

In 2024 alone, there were more than 500 deaths related to gun violence following traffic disputes, a figure that worries authorities and has turned this type of event into a public safety issue.

For the Hispanic community, these episodes represent a daily risk, as many Latinos spend hours on the road due to work or family commitments.

Experts recommend avoiding confrontations, not responding to verbal aggression and, in cases of danger, calling 911 immediately.
