Venezuelan host Raul Gonzalez, known for his participation in Univision’s Despierta America, opened his heart in a recent interview with Don Francisco.
In the conversation, the presenter spoke honestly about his personal process of acceptance and the emotional challenges he faced since his adolescence. The talk coincided with the launching of his autobiographical book La verdad muere de pie, where he shares intimate episodes that he had kept silent for years.
Raul recalled in depth the moment when, as a boy of 12 or 13, he began to realize that he was attracted to people of the same sex. That discovery, he explained, was an experience as revealing as it was painful.
“I tell the story of the Menudo group because that’s where I say: ‘No, no, there’s something going on here’. I admired the Menudo group, beyond admiring their songs or their fame, it awakened something in me and I discovered that there was a physical attraction,” he confessed.
The presenter explained that at that time he felt confusion and fear, because his emotions did not coincide with what the society around him considered “normal”. This internal contradiction led him to experience a mixture of shame, guilt, fear and pain, feelings that, he said, accompanied him for much of his youth.

“It was very hard because of everything I felt at the time. I never dared to talk to anyone,” he added.
At 54, Gonzalez says he decided to tell his story not as an act of courage, but as an exercise in personal liberation. After decades of carrying the weight of silence, he felt the need to reconcile with himself and achieve the serenity he had always sought.
“I don’t know if it is because I have been carrying so much in my life that what I wanted was peace, tranquility, serenity… To remove the chains that were tied to me, to remove my fears. I tell my truth not for courage, but to free myself and be at peace”, she expressed with emotion.
His book La verdad muere de pie represents this process of introspection and self-knowledge. In its pages, the driver recounts the most significant moments of his life, including his internal struggles, professional challenges and the learning that led him to fully accept himself.
Raúl González: The present of his heart
During the interview, Don Francisco also addressed the animator’s sentimental life and asked him directly if he is looking for a partner. Raúl answered with sincerity and optimism:
“Sure, I hope so. Human beings are not islands, we were not born to be alone.”
In describing how he envisions a future relationship, the driver emphasized the importance of family values and mutual support.
“Hopefully it will be a person who loves my family – for example, my mother, who is a person I love – a person who is family-oriented, who wants to build a path together… A stable relationship, where we support each other, respect each other and value each other,” he explained.

Although he is open to love, Raúl González clarified that he does not visualize himself starting a family with children of his own. His focus is on maintaining solid emotional ties with the people who are already part of his life.
“I don’t see myself with children. I have two nephews whom I love and respect,” he said.
The host, who every morning accompanies the public as co-host of Univision’s Despierta America, showed that today he is in a stage of maturity and balance, more focused on enjoying the calm he had worked so hard to achieve.
With his testimony, Raul Gonzalez offers a powerful message about self-acceptance, emotional freedom and the importance of living authentically.
Her story reflects the journey of a person who, after years of silence and fear, dared to speak out from the truth, seeking not only to heal her past, but also to inspire those going through similar processes.
