‘One Battle After Another,’ directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was the weekend’s top-grossing film, grossing $22.4 million in the U.S. for a cumulative $48.5 million worldwide.
A figure that represents the best opening of a film by Anderson, who has directed titles such as ‘Magnolia’ (1999), ‘There Will Be Blood’ (2007), ‘The Master’ (2012) or ‘Phantom Thread’ (2017).
The premiere of ‘One Battle After Another’, a brutal comedy that attacks the situation of immigrants in the U.S. and in which Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro and Teyana Taylor also participate, was one of the most anticipated of the year, especially after Steven Spielberg described it as “incredible”.

In second place is the musical comedy ‘Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie’, which adapts the eponymous Netflix series and earned $13.7 million at the U.S. box office ($19.3 worldwide), according to data from the specialized website Box Office Mojo.
‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie – Infinity Castle’, the Japanese animated film that had been number one in theaters for the past two weeks, drops to third place with a weekend gross of $7.1 million, bringing its cumulative figure to $605 million and placing it as the eighth most successful so far this year.
Horror film ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ took in 6.9 million this weekend, for a total of 435 million since its release. And ‘The Strangers: Cahpter 2’ earned 5.9 million in its first weekend in theaters.
