BTS sells 4 million copies of new album ‘Arirang’ in just one day

Popular South Korean K-pop band BTS, which is holding a mega comeback concert in the heart of Seoul this Saturday that is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of fans, has sold around four million copies of ‘Arirang,’ its first studio album in nearly four years, within 24 hours of its release.

The boy band’s record label, BigHit Music, today reported the number of copies sold of ‘Arirang’ on the first day since its release on Friday, a figure that surpasses the number of sales in the week following the release of BTS’ fourth studio album, ‘Map of the Soul: 7’.

This was reported by the South Korean news agency Yonhap, which also reported that ‘Arirang’, which marks a new stage of the group after a break during the compulsory military service of its members, has been positioned at the top of the best-selling albums of the iTunes player in 88 countries and regions, including Mexico, Italy and Sweden, according to BigHit.

The album, whose title alludes to South Korea’s most representative folk song, considered a cultural symbol of national identity, consists of 14 songs and marks the septet’s first studio album since ‘Proof’ (2022).

K-pop royalty BTS is holding its first concert since 2022 in the heart of the South Korean capital on Saturday, in an event that is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of fans in front of the stage, erected in and around the iconic Gwanghwamun Square.

The free concert will start at 20:00 local time (11:00 GMT) and will be streamed live worldwide on the Netflix platform.

The band’s leader, RM, will perform with a cast and reduced mobility after suffering an ankle injury at a rehearsal on Thursday, BigHit said and Yonhap picked up the day before, Agencia EFE reported.
