Camila Zamorano breaks records and conquers world boxing at 17 years old

At just 17 years old, Mexico’s Camila “Magnífica” Zamorano has made history by becoming the World Boxing Council(WBC) interim strawweight champion, the youngest to achieve this title in the history of professional boxing. Her feat occurred on June 15, 2025 at the Centro de Usos Múltiples in Hermosillo, Sonora, her hometown, in front of an enthusiastic crowd and with the support of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez.

Camila Zamorano won a unanimous decision over the experienced 41-year-old Japanese boxer Mika Iwakawa, with a resounding 100-90, 98-92 and 100-90 scorecard. The young Mexican showed her mettle, precision and boxing maturity, making it clear that her young age is not an obstacle to compete at the highest level.

From the first round, Camila Zamorano dominated the fight with a fast and accurate left jab, accompanied by straight right hands that hit hard.
