Mexican singer Carín León expressed on Sunday his solidarity with the victims of the fire at a Waldo’s store on Saturday in downtown Hermosillo, Sonora, in northern Mexico, in which 23 people died and dozens more were injured.
Through his social networks, the interpreter expressed his dismay at the accident in which at least six minors died.
“Far from my homeland, but with my heart in Hermosillo. May strength and faith embrace the families suffering today because of this unfortunate event,” the singer said on his Instagram account.
The governor of the state, Alfonso Durazo, reported that most of the victims were employees of the evening shift and that rescue efforts continued until late at night.
The context of the Sonora tragedy that shocked Carín León

The Sonora District Attorney’s Office stated that most of the deaths were the result of inhalation of toxic gases.
Leon’s reaction comes after an explosion inside a store located in downtown Hermosillo, capital of the northern state of Sonora, caused a fire on Saturday afternoon when the store was full of customers due to the holiday shopping season and the Day of the Dead.
Gustavo Salas Chávez, head of the Sonora District Attorney’s Office, confirmed the death of the 23 people, that 12 more remain hospitalized and detailed that there are no indications that the incident was provoked, although he did not rule out any line of investigation.
The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, regretted the deaths and assured that her government sent aid to those affected.
For his part, Durazo affirmed that his administration “will take all necessary actions” to support the affected families and individuals.
The fire is one of the most catastrophic fires worldwide in recent years, reported Agencia EFE, including the Ycuá Bolaños fire in Asunción, Paraguay (2004), which left 364 people dead, the Dhaka fire in Bangladesh (2024), which killed 46 people, and the fire in a hypermarket in Kut, Baghdad (July 2025), which killed 60 people.
