The Boston Celtics suffered a 114-108 loss this Sunday against the Portland Trail Blazers, in a game played at the Moda Center that stopped the visiting team’s positive streak. The loss came despite an outstanding performance by Jaylen Brown, who scored 37 points, confirming his great offensive momentum during the month of December.

With this result, the Celtics are now 19-12, in third place in the Eastern Conference, while still waiting for the return of Jayson Tatum, their main star, who remains out with an Achilles tendon injury.

Brown’s performance was again one of the few high points for Boston.

The shooting guard has been the team’s offensive engine in recent weeks and, with this performance, maintains a streak of nine consecutive games scoring 30 points or more in December, averaging 32.6 points per game in that span.

However, their production was not enough to avoid defeat against a Portland team that was better able to distribute its offensive efforts and dominate key areas such as rebounding.

Portland wins with collective play

The Trail Blazers (13-19) managed to cut Boston’s four-game winning streak to four consecutive victories thanks to a solid team effort.

Shaedon Sharpe was the top scorer for the home team with 26 points, while Deni Avdija contributed a double-double of 24 points and 10 assists, being key in the offensive leadership.

In the paint, Donovan Clingan dominated with 18 points and 18 rebounds, imposing a physical presence against a Boston team that struggled to control the boards.

In turn, Toumani Camara added 20 points, completing a balanced night for the Blazers, who took advantage of the Celtics’ defensive mistakes at key moments of the game.

Hugo Gonzalez continues to add important minutes

On Boston’s side, in addition to Brown, Spanish rookie Hugo Gonzalez, who once again played more than 30 minutes on the court, stood out.

The youngster contributed 13 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, consolidating his presence in the rotation at a time when the team needs depth in the face of losses.

His performance continues to be closely followed by Hispanic fans, who see in Gonzalez one of the most promising European prospects in the NBA.

A demanding year-end

For the Celtics, the loss in Portland reflects the challenges the team faces without its top star.

While Jaylen Brown maintains an outstanding level, Boston will have to adjust its defense and inside game to hold on to the top spots in the East in an increasingly demanding stretch of the season.

The performance of Hispanic players, meanwhile, continues to be a point of interest for the Latino community in the U.S., which closely follows their growing impact in the NBA.
