The Boston Celtics confirmed their status as contenders in the Eastern Conference with a 129-119 victory over the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, in a game that served to halt the good momentum of the home team and to leave a rare individual performance in the NBA: that of Derrick White, decisive on both sides of the court.

Utah came in with confidence after recently upsetting two up-and-coming teams like the Detroit Pistons and San Antonio Spurs, but ran into a more solid, deeper Boston with more experience to handle the key moments of the game.

Celtics beat Jazz

Derrick White was the most complete player of the night.

He finished with 27 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 blocks, an exceptional stat line for any position, but historic for a point guard.

According to NBA records, his seven blocks set a record for a player at his position, making him just the 13th player in league history to achieve at least seven blocks in a single game.

Beyond the stat, White set the pace of the game with his perimeter defense, his offensive reading and his ability to show up when Utah threatened to get closer on the scoreboard.

His impact was key to Boston maintaining control for much of the game.

Jaylen Brown slows his pace, but Boston responds in tandem

Jaylen Brown contributed 23 points, dropping below 30 for the first time in December, after a month in which he had sustained a very high offensive output.

Even so, his contribution was efficient and timely, especially in quick transitions and attacks to the hoop.

The great value of this victory for the Celtics (20-12) was in the depth of the roster. Anfernee Simons scored 20 points, Payton Pritchard added 18, and Luka Garza chipped in with 15, allowing the team to not rely solely on one player to solve the game.

Spanish rookie Hugo Gonzalez played important minutes off the bench. In almost 17 and a half minutes, he registered 3 points, 4 rebounds and an assist, adding experience in an increasingly demanding rotation in the middle stretch of the season.

Keyonte George continues to show signs of growth in Utah

For the Jazz (12-20), the most outstanding player was Keyonte George, who signed an outstanding performance with 37 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists.

The young point guard continues to establish himself as one of the team’s most promising players and is beginning to appear in the conversation as a candidate for Most Improved Player of the season.

Bosnian Jusuf Nurkic almost had a triple-double with 26 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists, while Lauri Markkanen contributed 22 points and 9 rebounds, maintaining his regularity as the main interior offensive reference.

A victory that strengthens Boston

For Hispanic fans in the United States, Boston’s win leaves a clear message: the Celtics remain one of the most complete teams in the NBA, capable of winning even when their leading scorers are not having their most explosive night.

Utah, on the other hand, showed character and young talent, but still pays for the lack of consistency against higher ranked opponents.

Boston leaves Utah with a valuable victory and the certainty that their defense and depth remain their best weapons heading into the most demanding stretch of the season.
