A 26-year-old Hispanic woman, identified as Llovana Torres, was arrested on May 17, 2025 in Chicago on charges of stabbing her 7-year-old son.

The incident occurred inside the family apartment and, according to court documents, the aggression was allegedly motivated by a sudden anger after finding the house, which he had cleaned the night before, in disarray.

The Chicago Police Department confirmed that Torres was arrested at 9:50 a.m., less than two hours after the violent episode, and that the minor was transported in critical condition to a pediatric hospital.

According to the affidavit filed in court, Torres woke up that morning and realized that his son – identified by the initial V. to protect his identity – had messed up the house.

In a rage, he began to hit the child, which led the boy to flee to the kitchen and hide under the sink, inside a cabinet.

Unable to get him out, Torres allegedly took a kitchen knife and stabbed him “until he heard him scream ‘ouch,’” according to the legal document.

Noticing that her son was bleeding, Torres took him to her mother’s apartment, located in the same building.

There, the child’s grandmother observed a stab wound in the abdomen, with tissue hanging out, and reacted in alarm.

A cousin of the boy, who was also present, claimed to have heard Torres admit that he had threatened to cut or stab him if he did not leave the cabinet.

Under pressure from his mother, Torres agreed to take the child to Evanston Hospital.

Due to the severity of the injuries, the child was transported by helicopter to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where he underwent surgery for a ruptured diaphragm and other internal puncture wounds.

He currently remains hospitalized under medical surveillance, connected to a mechanical ventilator and a chest drainage tube.

Attempted concealment and contradictory statement

Once arrested, Torres called her mother from jail and asked her not to reveal what had happened, suggesting that she tell a different version of events.

However, testimony and evidence contradicted that intention.

During cross-examination, the defendant claimed to the medical staff that the injury occurred accidentally while she was “waving the knife” trying to locate her son inside the cabinet.

Authorities charged Torres with aggravated assault on a child under the age of 13, a felony under Illinois law.

If convicted, she could face a substantial prison sentence, in addition to the loss of custody of her child.
