Guadalajara dominated the first 20 minutes against an América side that struggled to react

Chivas wins the Clasico. Argentine coach Gabriel Milito’s Chivas de Guadalajara beat America 1-0 on Saturday in the Mexican soccer derby to remain leaders of the Clausura tournament, with six wins in six matches.

Armando González, the revelation Mexican striker in Liga MX, scored his fifth goal of the championship to confirm Chivas in first place.

Guadalajara dominated the first 20 minutes against an América that struggled to react; González missed with a left-footed shot in the 2nd minute, and Richard Ledezma, in a similar fashion in the 13th minute, but then the Águilas equalized the actions.

In the 41st minute, the ‘hormiga’ Gonzalez put Chivas ahead.

On a corner kick, the striker accepted a ball and left-footed it into the net.

Both sides missed opportunities in the second half; América’s goalkeeper, Ángel Malagón, blocked two scoring opportunities by González, while América, who closed better, created danger on the flanks and in the 65th minute with a shot by Henry Martin.

Guadalajara has 18 points, while América is tenth in the table with eight points and is the worst offensive team with a frequency of half a goal per game.

Earlier, Spaniard Sergio Canales converted a goal to give Rayados de Monterrey a 1-0 win over Leon and move them up to fifth place in the standings.

In other matches on Saturday, Necaxa beat Juárez FC 1-2, Pachuca beat Atlas 3-1 and San Luis defeated Querétaro 3-0.

With goals from Argentine Julián Carranza and Javier Ruiz, Necaxa went from strength to strength to beat Juárez.

In Pachuca, Venezuelan Salomón Rondón scored his third goal of the year, his second in a row, in Pachuca’s 3-1 win over Atlas.

Moroccan Oussama Idrissi, Brian García and Salomón scored for the Tuzos.

In the other match, Brazilian-born Italian Joao Pedro scored his sixth goal of the year to confirm his place as the leading scorer in San Luis’ 3-0 win over Querétaro.

Paraguay’s Jesús Medina and Miguel García completed the scoring.

The day began on Friday, when Portuguese Paulinho gave champion Toluca a 1-0 win over Tijuana and Pumas UNAM overcame Puebla 2-3 with goals from Guillermo Martínez, Paraguayan Robert Morales and Brazilian Juninho.

On Sunday, Argentine world champion Ángel Correa‘s Tigres UANL, second in the standings, will travel to Cruz Azul, third in the standings, and Santos Laguna will host Mazatlán.
