Marvel Studios confirmed the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, in the next Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, titled Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. The announcement has generated great anticipation among fans, especially because it marks the return of one of the franchise’s most iconic characters, seven years after his emotional farewell in Avengers: Endgame (2019).
The confirmation came via the film’s first trailer, which began screening in theaters alongside Avatar: Fire & Ash, according to Variety magazine. Although the trailer has not yet been officially released on digital platforms, snippets of the video leaked online, revealing key scenes from Rogers’ return. In one, Steve appears at home as the father of a newborn baby, gazing longingly at his iconic Captain America costume. The trailer closes with a direct message, “Steve Rogers will return for Avengers: Doomsday.”

Chris Evans’ last appearance as Steve Rogers was precisely at the end of Avengers: Endgame, when the character decides to stay in the past to live a quiet life, ages off-camera and then hands over his shield to Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie).
With that gesture, Marvel marked the closing of Rogers’ narrative arc and opened a new era for the character.
Anthony Mackie formally assumed the mantle of Captain America in the film Captain America: Brave New World (2025), where he shared the lead role with Danny Ramirez, who played Joaquin Torres, the new Falcon.
That film consolidated Sam Wilson as the active Captain America within the MCU, so Evans’ return does not necessarily imply a replacement, but a narrative coexistence between different stages of the character.

Evans’ return follows another high-profile announcement: Robert Downey Jr., the historic face of Iron Man, will also be part of Avengers: Doomsday, although he will not reprise his role as Tony Stark, but will play Doctor Doom, one of the most important villains in the Marvel Universe.
This turn marks one of the studio’s most ambitious creative decisions in recent years.
In March of this year, Marvel presented part of the cast in a live broadcast of several hours, where names such as Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) and Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta were confirmed.
However, Chris Evans’ name did not appear in that initial announcement, causing his return to be kept under wraps until now.
What this return means for Hispanic fans
For U.S. Hispanic audiences, the return of Chris Evans as Captain America connects directly to one of the most successful eras of superhero cinema.
Avengers: Doomsday promises not only a great cinematic event, but also a reconciliation between generations of characters, combining nostalgia and new narratives.
Although Marvel has not yet revealed the exact scope of Steve Rogers’ role in the story, his presence confirms that the MCU is still committed to interconnected stories, where the past continues to play a key role in the future of the franchise.
With a release set for late 2026, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases of Marvel’s next phase.
