Despite the steady growth of Major League Soccer (MLS) in recent years, Liga MX clubs have shown in 2025 that they maintain a clear advantage in the CONCACAF Champions Cup(Concachampions). Teams such as Cruz Azul, Tigres and Pumas UNAM managed to advance solidly in the current edition, beating most of their North American opponents.
Cruz Azul, the current finalists, will represent Mexico in the final to be played on June 1, while Tigres was eliminated by La Máquina in the semifinals and Pumas lost in the quarterfinals to Vancouver Whitecaps, the only MLS team that has maintained a competitive performance.
Superiority also in local leagues

Liga MX, unlike MLS, not only excels in international tournaments, but has also shown better consistency at the local level.
In the Clausura 2025, América and Cruz Azul finished among the top three teams in the overall standings, with 34 and 33 points, respectively.

Tigres UANL, which eliminated LAFC in the Concachampions, also qualified for the Mexican league semifinals.
Even Pumas, despite losing to Vancouver in the international tournament, managed to qualify for the playoffs and competed at a good level.
MLS with ups and downs and few lights

On the U.S. side, Vancouver Whitecaps has been the positive exception.
The Canadian club is runner-up in its MLS conference and will play in the Concachampions final against Cruz Azul of Liga MX.
Brian White, Pedro Vite and Javain Brown are key players in his scheme.
Other clubs such as Columbus Crew and LA Galaxy, who arrived as Leagues Cup and MLS Cup champions respectively, were eliminated in the round of 16.
In addition, Galaxy has not won a single game in MLS in 2025, accumulating only 3 points in 13 dates.
Inter Miami, with Lionel Messi, made it to the quarterfinals but were eliminated by Vancouver.
In the league, they have a draw and a recent loss, placing them in seventh place in the East.
