Czech Republic joins Mexico’s group, Arda Güler threatens Paraguay

México y Paraguay ya conocen a sus últimos obstáculos para el sueño mundialista

In the last playoff match to complete the list of 48 teams qualified for the World Cup, Bolivia failed in its attempt to return after the experience of the United States 1994 when it lost 2-1 to Iraq on Tuesday at the BBVA stadium in Guadalupe (Mexico). EFE/Miguel Sierra

The wait is over and the road to World Cup glory has been mapped out. This Tuesday, the last day of European and intercontinental play-offs defined the names that remained in groups A and D, making it clear that there will be no easy games at the big event in North America.

These are Mexico’s opponents in the 2026 World Cup

The Mexican National Team, coached by Javier Aguirre, already knows its third and last group opponent.

The Czech Republic sealed their ticket in dramatic fashion in Prague after beating Denmark in a penalty shootout (3-1) that paralyzed all of Europe.

After a 2-2 draw in regular time where neither side gave an inch, the Czechs’ coolness from the penalty spot was superior.

With this, Group A is officially formed by:

  • Mexico
  • South Africa (Opening match opponent)
  • South Korea
  • Czech Republic

Be careful here: the Czechs are not a small opponent. Their physical ability and tactical organization will be a litmus test for El Tri in the group stage.

Turkey and the “Arda Güler Effect” against Paraguay and USA

On the other hand, Group D has become one of the most attractive (and dangerous).

Turkey returned to a World Cup after 24 years of absence (their last appearance was in the historic 2002), after defeating a courageous Kosovo team 0-1 in Pristina.

The name on everyone’s lips is Arda Güler.

The Real Madrid gem, along with Juventus’ Kenan Yildiz, led an Ottoman team that was brimming with experience and talent.

A goal by Kerem Akturkoglu early in the second half was enough to extinguish Kosovo’s dream and qualify the Turks.

Turkey joins Group D, where it will share the stage with:

  • United States
  • Paraguay
  • Australia

For the “Albirroja”, the challenge rises to a higher level.

Facing Güler’s dynamic Turkey and the United States playing at home will be a real battle for the Round of 16.

The rest of the world map

The day also left other results of impact.

Bosnia-Herzegovina, after knocking out Italy in a historic result, is placed in Group B along with Canada, Qatar and Switzerland.

Meanwhile, Sweden struggled but beat Lewandowski’s Poland 3-2 to advance to Group G, where they will face the Netherlands, Japan and Tunisia.

Congo (to go to the group of Colombia and Portugal) and Iraq vs. Bolivia (to face France).

Do you see Mexico going through as group leaders against the Czechs or do you think the “Güler effect” will make Turkey the surprise of the World Cup?
