Black, velvet, silk and lots and lots of glitter is the norm for those who, even as a family, want to be the epitome of elegance at Christmas lunches and dinners. However, the canon changes, especially on New Year’s Eve, a holiday that ceased to be so protocol to become a very comfortable meeting to celebrate in pajamas.

Celebrating the arrival of the New Year does not always involve dressing up. The latest ‘millennials’ (born between 1981-1996) and Generation Z (between 1997 and 2012), especially, are willing to change the tradition to Christmas in pajamas, psychology doctor Ana Aranda confirms to EFE.

“Saying goodbye to the year in pajamas has become a fun celebration among friends” and even with the family, Andrea, who belongs to the more adult Generation Z, told EFE, and who decided to invite her closest circle to her home for dinner on New Year’s Eve.

He acknowledges that on other occasions the group has gone out until dawn.

“It’s not a question of age, we feel like a change,” he argues to justify a change that includes, as a dress code, “Christmas pajamas. We’ll probably buy them all the same.

For some, this option is a trend that may become a tradition.

You only have to look at the electronic sales, afterBlack Friday, to see that in many cases it is impossible to find sizes of this type of pajamas.

Christmas in pajamas

Fast fashion companies and online sales platforms concentrate the largest number of proposals.

Skims, Kim Kardashian‘s brand, as expected, has designed pajamas with a short T-shirt and a print of jumping reindeer.

Sweden’s H&M prints bows and snow stars on a red background, as well as pixelated hearts, while France’s Kiabi has the Grinch as its main image.

In the case of Lefties, which has been expanding its offer of Christmas pajamas every year due to the success obtained, the motifs are dogs with sunglasses, Santa Claus hat and jacket, as well as other warmer ones with fur and hood with reindeer antlers.

Small Christmas trees, ice stars and the usual reindeer are the images that Amazon has chosen to live comfortably any holiday night.

Glitter, do not miss

On the other side of the coin, there is no Christmas without festive collections bursting into the shop windows to celebrate a time when elegance is not at odds with comfort, which this year is the main trend.

Aranda affirms that there is a great polarization in these dates around the wardrobe “because the link to the family is maintained, whether we dress for the holidays or not.

The aim is to maintain the tradition and at the same time demystify.

Everything is valid, and the change will depend on the experience.

French designer Ludovic de Saint Sernin has created a capsule collection for Zara in which there is no shortage of silver strapless dresses, others with leather and studs, and also incorporates pants easily combined with silk blouses.

Elisabetta Franchi also opts for comfort, “without leaving sophistication aside,” warn from the firm, with a mini dress adorned with rhinestones with which it performs a crocodile skin effect in black.

She also doesn’t rule out white in a very casual button-down sweater ensemble paired with a leather-effect, synthetic, center-zip pencil skirt.

Ralph Lauren’s proposal also focuses on black and white, looks that combine with leather details in pants and vests.

At the other end of the spectrum, there is no shortage of classic designs, with lace dresses and delicate blouses with eighteenth-century-style ruffles, to be combined with comfortable pants.

At the opposite pole, the Belgian Glenn Martens has created for Diesel a Christmas collection where he gives in to tight dresses in abstract floral print.
