Mexican authorities announced the arrest of Guatemalan drug trafficker Luis Alberto “N” in an operation carried out on Friday, August 1 in Mexico City. The subject, identified as Luis Alberto Osorio Mazariegos, alias “Pupusita”, had an arrest warrant for extradition issued by the United States and Guatemala for his alleged participation in an international drug trafficking network.
According to Mexico’s Security and Citizen Protection Secretariat (SSPC), Osorio Mazariegos is alleged to be a key operator in a criminal organization linked to the Sinaloa Cartel, with a presence in South America, Central America and North America. His main role is said to have been that of financial operator and recipient of cocaine shipments destined for the United States.

Authorities noted that the organization to which “Pupusita”, as this Guatemalan drug trafficker is known, operates with sophisticated production methods.
As well as drug stockpiling, transportation and distribution, which has allowed it to ship tons of narcotics on a large scale.

According to the official report, this criminal structure is considered highly dangerous and with strong international connections.
The detainee is also wanted by Guatemalan authorities, indicating his relevance within the criminal network.
He is alleged to have collaborated in criminal activities both at home and abroad.
Coordination between federal forces

The arrest of this Guatemalan drug trafficker was possible thanks to a tactical reconnaissance operation.
Elements of the SSPC, the National Migration Institute (INM), the National Guard (GN), the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) participated.
These institutions acted jointly to locate and secure Osorio Mazariegos without any confrontation.
The capture comes in the context of an intensified anti-drug trafficking strategy in Mexico.
Especially after the arrest of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada in the United States last year, which has caused internal divisions within the Sinaloa Cartel.
Mexico reinforces collaboration with the U.S.
The Mexican government, through its security cabinet, has reported more than 5,800 arrests related to drug trafficking.
Many of them are of persons wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
This is part of the bilateral agreements with the Donald Trump administration, which seek to curb the flow of drugs to the US and avoid imposing tariffs on Mexico.
