Federal authorities in the United States arrested five people they accuse of wanting to carry out a series of terrorist attacks in Southern California during New Year’s Eve celebrations, Attorney General Pam Bondi said Monday.

The detainees were allegedly part of a “far-left, pro-Palestinian, anti-government, anti-capitalist” group and were planning a series of explosions in “various parts of California” as well as attacks against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, Bondi said in a posting on the X platform.

“After an intensive investigation, the Department of Justice, in coordination with the FBI, prevented what would have been a massive and heinous terrorist plot in the Central District of California (Orange and Los Angeles counties),” the U.S. Attorney wrote.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced in a release, also on the X platform, the arrest of a fifth individual, who is also allegedly connected to the “extremist” group, was arrested in New Orleans, where he was planning a “separate violent attack.”

Authorities have not yet released the names of those arrested, but more information is expected to be released during a press conference to be held by the FBI this afternoon in Los Angeles.

The FBI fingered the Turtle Island Liberation Front as the organization responsible for planning these alleged attacks.

On social network pages supposedly associated with this group, it describes itself as a “liberation” organization through “decolonization and sovereignty”.

On Instagram, where they have 862 followers and have posted content starting in the summer of this year, they have shared images Buzzy related to protests against Trump’s immigration policies and in support of Palestine.
