Charlie Kirk, 31, was participating in a college forum like the ones he had been organizing on college campuses since 2012, where he was debating confrontationally with liberal students, when he was shot in the neck from a nearby rooftop.
The weapon recovered was a high-powered bolt-action rifle found in a forest near the campus, with one spent cartridge and three unfired cartridges containing inscriptions that could reflect extremist ideologies.
The attack took place while Kirk was speaking at one of his regular conservative debate events, which had made him a benchmark for youth activism and the ultra-conservative movement on U.S. college campuses.
Kirk’s closeness to the Presidency and transfer by Vance.

Following the attack, Kirk’s body was flown to Arizona aboard the vice presidential plane, accompanied by Vice President J.D. Vance, who met previously with Kirk’s wife, Erika Frantzve, and close family members.
Vance highlighted Kirk’s relevance to the 2024 Republican victory and government staffing as he escorted the casket alongside members of Turning Point USA.
The president, Donald Trump, announced that he will posthumously award the Presidential Medal of Freedom, calling the assassination “heinous” and describing Kirk as “a giant of his generation and an inspiration to millions.”
The FBI is maintaining an active search for the suspect and is analyzing all elements of the case, including recovered ammunition and campus records, while investigating the motive for the attack.
