Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Wednesday, January 7, accused the woman shot and killed today in Minnesota by immigration agents of committing “an act of domestic terrorism,” that the authorities acted in “self-defense,” and that the episode demonstrates that, according to her, these operatives are exposed to attacks “on a daily basis.”
“We are continuing to gather more information, but this demonstrates the assaults that our ICE agents and law enforcement face every day,” Noem said during a press conference in Brownsville, Texas.

A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday while officers were conducting a raid in the city, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said on its X-platform account.
The authorities said in the statement that a group of protesters tried to block the operation and one of them “used the vehicle” of the woman to try to crash into one of the agents.
In videos shared on social networks, however, it is seen how the woman driving a red van was surrounded by ICE agents who asked her to get out of the vehicle.
While attempting to flee, one of the officers fired into the driver’s window and minutes later, the car crashed into another vehicle parked on the same street, a few meters ahead.
The death of this woman in Minnesota would be the fifth that has taken place during immigration raids under the Donald Trump administration, according to data compiled by The Trace, a portal dedicated to tracking gun violence in the U.S.
According to the portal, as of January 7, 28 incidents, including 14 shootings, have been identified during these operations.
These include the shooting of three people who were observing or documenting ICE raids.
As well as the shootings of five people fleeing from traffic controls or trying to evade action by the authorities.
And a Sept. 30 raid on a Chicago apartment building, during which half-asleep tenants and their children were held at gunpoint.
At least four people were killed and five others were injured.
