The pressure is off at the Liga MX offices! Just when it seemed that the dream of seeing a Liguilla in the country’s most emblematic venues was fading away due to FIFA’s strict rules, an administrative “miracle” has arrived.
World soccer’s highest body granted an official extension for the delivery of the World Cup stadiums in Mexico, allowing the Clausura 2026 spectacle not to have to move house at its most critical moment. Below are the details of Mexico’s World Cup stadiums for the 2026 Liguilla.
The respite Mexican soccer needed

Originally, World Cup venues must be delivered well in advance for FIFA to take full control of logistics, branding and turf maintenance.
However, after intense negotiations, Liga MX announced with great fanfare that Estadio Azteca, Estadio Akron and Estadio BBVA will be able to continue operating for the local tournament for a few key weeks.
“FIFA has authorized the extension of the delivery dates for the World Cup stadiums. This will allow them to be used during the final phase of the Clausura tournament,” said the official communiqué that had thousands of fans celebrating.

The schedule was defined as follows, and watch out, because this defines who will reach the final on their home court:
Estadio Azteca (CDMX) and Estadio Akron (Guadalajara): They have a use permit until May 13.
BBVA Stadium (Monterrey): Received an extra margin until May 17.
What does this mean in practice? Club América, Chivas de Guadalajara and Rayados de Monterrey will be able to play their Liguilla matches, including the vibrant Semifinals, in their own stadiums if they qualify.
This eliminates the uncertainty of having to seek alternate venues or play behind closed doors in smaller stadiums just when the title is decided.
Mexico, the heart of the 2026 World Cup
FIFA HAS GIVEN CHANCE! 🏟️

FIFA’s flexibility responds to Mexico’s importance as a historic venue.
The Azteca Stadium, which will become the first venue to host three World Cups, has a heavy schedule: it will host five matches, including the opening game on June 11, as well as Round of 16 and Round of 16 duels.
Meanwhile, the Akron in Zapopan and the Steel Giant in Guadalupe are not far behind, hosting regular phase games and elimination rounds.
The logistics are titanic, but with this agreement, Liga MX ensures that the flavor of the Liguilla is not lost before the great World Cup banquet.
Do you think this home field advantage will allow América or Chivas to lift the Cup before the World Cup?
