On July 4, 2025, heavy rains caused flash flooding in Central Texas, especially in Kerr County.
The Guadalupe River overflowed its banks, causing a tragedy at Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ camp located near Kerrville. The floodwaters swept through the facility overnight, leaving 23 girls missing.
Rescue operations underway

Rescue teams work tirelessly to locate the missing girls.
Operations are hampered by the hazardous conditions and the magnitude of the disaster.
More than 200 people have been rescued in the region, and the bodies of at least 27 people, including 9 minors, have been recovered.
There were 750 people in the camp at the end of July 4, but they had no electricity, water or internet signal, according to the camp’s director.
During the night, the water rose 8 meters in that area.
Community impact

Camp Mystic is a summer camp with decades of history, located on the banks of the Guadalupe River.
The tragedy is reminiscent of a similar flood in 1987 that claimed the lives of 10 teenagers at a nearby camp.
A reunification hotline has been set up for relatives of the missing girls. If you need information, please call 830-258-1111.
The governor of Texas stated that they are searching for all of the missing: “Air rescue missions like this are going on 24 hours a day. We will not stop until everyone is accounted for.”
The most dangerous flood in Texas

According to statements made by Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly, flooding is a constant occurrence in that area.
“This is the most dangerous river valley in the United States. But we had no reason to believe it was going to be anything like what happened here,” he said.
The weather service issued a flood warning for south-central Kerr County, alerting residents to seek shelter in higher elevations.
Por lo menos 500 socorristas y 14 helicópteros están con las labores de rescate en las zonas afectadas
