The cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel’s popular late-night show due to comments made by the host about Charlie Kirk, the ultra-conservative activist murdered last week, has also left Mexican comedian Guillermo Rodriguez, who was part of the show, without a job.

Rodriguez, 54, a native of Zacatecas, Mexico, had been playing Hispanic immigrant characters with basic English on the show for two decades, gaining significant airtime.

Over the years, the freshness of the Mexican comedian’s characters has captivated interviewees such as Kim Kardashian.

Rodriguez has also assumed the official position of red carpet interviewer for the show since 2011.

Before being part of the show, the Mexican worked as a security guard for the studios and had at least one other job.

Rodriguez was discovered sleeping in the vehicle of one of the producers during off-hours, but instead of being fired he was incorporated into the program, becoming an inseparable companion of Kimmel.

ABC announced Wednesday that it will “indefinitely” withdraw from its programming schedule the popular program that has aired since 2003.

“The MAGA gang tried desperately to brand this kid (Tyler Robinson) who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything but one of them and doing everything they could for political mileage,” Kimmel said Monday night.

The comedian poked fun at the impact Kirk’s death had on U.S. President Donald Trump, airing a clip recorded last week where a reporter asks the president how he was coping with the assassination and he responds “I think very well” and goes on to make comments about the construction of the new White House ballroom.

“Nexstar strongly objects to the recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel about the murder of Charlie Kirk and will replace the program with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets,” the company noted.

Kimmel, born November 13, 1967 in New York, has hosted ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ on ABC since 2003, a late-night program that regularly leads in ratings among entertainment shows and has gone viral for its interviews and sketches, reported Agencia EFE.
