Although three decades have passed since its premiere, the song remains a recurring phenomenon that climbs the charts year after year, establishing itself as a modern Christmas anthem and a constant source of income for its performer.
The impact of the song is not only cultural: it is also economic. According to estimates cited by Forbes and The Economist, Mariah Carey earns between $2.5 million and $3 million each year in royalties associated with the song alone.
That figure illustrates how a 1990s release can continue to generate very high profits over time, especially as it is a seasonal theme that is massively reproduced every year-end.
In addition, an estimate published by The Economist noted that, by 2017, the song had already generated more than $60 million in royalties since its release.

This year, her show “Mariah Carey’s Christmas Time” is scheduled at Dolby Live in Las Vegas, Nevada (USA), with dates from November 28 to December 13, continuing her tradition of holiday performances.
The hit has also received historic recognition. In 2021, the song became the first and only Christmas song to earn the RIAA’s Diamond Award, a distinction that recognizes 10 million units sold and streamed in the United States.
