A 36-year-old Mexican national, identified as Miguel Sifuentes Jimenez, was deported on May 22, 2025 by Immigration and Customs Enforcement(ICE) agents after illegally re-entering the United States and facing multiple criminal charges both in the U.S. and in his home country.
Miguel Sifuentes Jiménez was handed over to Mexican authorities at the top of the Stanton Street Bridge, located on the border between El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez. His case stands out for his history of recidivism and for being a person with a serious criminal record in both countries, which activated his priority to be removed from the country.
Reentered after deportation

According to official records, Miguel Sifuentes Jiménez had previously been deported in 2013 from Calexico, California.
This after he was convicted of robbery, aggravated assault and domestic violence.
He was handed over to Mexican authorities at the top of the Stanton Street Bridge

Despite that expulsion, he re-entered illegally on May 3, 2021.
He crossed the border on foot near the Santa Teresa Port of Entry in New Mexico.
On that occasion he was arrested, prosecuted as a repeat offender and released after serving a sentence.

ICE reinforces control

The situation escalated again in May 2025, when Miguel Sifuentes Jimenez was placed by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) agents at the Eddy County Detention Center in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
He was serving a new sentence for aggravated assault on a household member, including strangulation or suffocation.
ICE placed a detainer to prevent his release without immigration supervision.
Upon his release, he was immediately taken into custody and on May 13 was charged with inadmissibility as a previously deported alien.
In addition, for re-entering the country illegally, which are considered serious offenses under immigration law.
