The 2025 edition of the Latin Grammy Awards left memorable performances, emotional tributes and several surprises at the awards ceremony, but one of the moments that generated the most conversation on social networks was Carin León’s speech when she received the award for Best Contemporary Mexican Music Album for “Palabra de To’s (Seca)”.

The singer’s comment -which mentioned historical music figures and thanked “indirect” influences- coincided with a media-heavy week for Ángela Aguilar, which led many users to compare both speeches and interpret a possible subtext. Although there is no evidence that Carín León was talking about Ángela Aguilar, the conversation exploded on networks and became a trend.

The speech was widely disseminated after journalist Javier Ceriani shared a fragment of the moment.

In it, Carin León thanked those who influenced her artistic evolution, mentioning both icons of Mexican music and stars of other genres:

“I want to thank all the people who have indirectly made this possible… maestro José Alfredo Jiménez, Pedro Infante, Javier Solís, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley… who did and never imagined what Mexican music was going to end up with and what we were going to end up with. Long live music!”.

The phrase “indirectly” caught the public’s attention, especially because it occurred in a week in which Ángela Aguilar was once again at the center of the digital conversation.

Ángela Aguilar’s statements on family legacy

On November 7, Angela Aguilar kicked off her “Libre Corazon” tour in Irving, Texas.

The previous days had already been a topic of discussion due to the availability of tickets and sales strategies.

But the spotlight returned to her when, during her concert, she spoke of her family’s musical legacy.

The singer highlighted the role of her grandparents, Flor Silvestre and Antonio Aguilar, and her father Pepe Aguilar, saying:

“My grandparents and my father were great men. They opened the door to all the singers of Mexican music… you don’t know how deeply proud I am to have this legacy.

His words rekindled a previous debate: has the Aguilar family been too insistent in stressing its historical relevance?

Some users interpreted it as a posture of superiority; others defended that Ángela simply speaks from family pride, a tradition in Mexican music.

Was there a hint? What the networks are saying

The controversy did not arise from an actual confrontation, but from the way the public contrasted the two speeches.

Users began to post Ángela’s phrases -about how her family “opened the door”- next to the list of historical references mentioned by Carin León.

The discussion grew especially among communities of followers accustomed to analyze every gesture or statement, especially since Ángela Aguilar’s personal and professional life became a recurring topic in networks due to her relationship with Christian Nodal, her public statements and the media pressure surrounding her career.

Despite the digital effervescence, there is no statement, insinuation or evidence that Carin León has made any direct or indirect reference to Ángela Aguilar.

Nor has Angela mentioned Carin.
