Mexican baseball player Isaac Paredes, a native of Hermosillo, Sonora, rewrote his name in Major League Baseball history after hitting his 80th MLB home run during a game between the Houston Astros and the Tampa Bay Rays on May 19, 2025.
Paredes, 26, became the youngest Mexican to reach this mark, surpassing the legendary Vinicio Castilla, who achieved it at 28. His home run was a solo shot in the third inning, which at the time put Houston ahead 2-0. Despite the Sonora native’s offensive effort, the Astros lost 3-2 to his former team. In the current season, Isaac Paredes is batting .264, has 25 RBIs and is one of Houston’s offensive leaders. In addition, with this home run he tied Beto Ávila from Veracruz for fifth place in the all-time list of Mexicans with the most home runs in MLB.
Shining in the same game

The game also saw a good performance by other Mexican players, apart from Isaac Paredes.
Tijuana’s Jonathan Aranda singled with the bases loaded in the eighth inning, tying the game 2-2.
Aranda is batting .310, a career-high for the Tampa Bay Rays, and already has 23 RBIs on the campaign.

Meanwhile, pitcher Manuel “Manny” Rodríguez, from Yucatán, had his moment of redemption.
A day after suffering a loss, Rodriguez took the mound in the eighth inning, allowed a leadoff hit, but retired the next three batters, including Isaac Paredes.
In the ninth inning, the Rays took the lead on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Walls.
Giving Rodriguez his first win of the year, and leaving his ERA at 2.42 after 23 appearances.
Only four teams are missing

With this home run, Isaac Paredes has homered against 26 of the 30 MLB teams.
He is only missing the Chicago Cubs, Arizona Diamondbacks, Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds.
In the 2025 season, he still has a chance to face Cubs and Arizona, which could allow him to continue to extend his personal record.
Isaac Paredes’ performance confirms his place as one of the most outstanding Mexicans in today’s MLB.
Along with the likes of Aranda and Rodriguez, he represents a generation of national talent that continues to break barriers in professional baseball.
