A relative of the alleged killer of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was the one who turned over to police Tyler Robinson, the suspected murderer who “confessed or implied” to him that he was the perpetrator of the murder, Utah Governor Spencer Cox said Friday.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we caught him. On the night of Sept. 11, a family member of Tyler Robinson contacted a family friend, who in turn contacted the County Sheriff’s Office with information that Robinson had confessed to them or implied that he had committed the incident,” Cox said at a press conference.
FBI identified Robinson in videos

Cox said this information was then forwarded to FBI agents, who reviewed surveillance video from the Utah Valley University (UVU) campus – where Charlie Kirk was shot and killed last Wednesday.
They were able to identify Robinson “arriving on the UVU campus in a gray Dodge Challenger at approximately 8:29 local time.”
“Investigators interviewed a member of Robinson’s family, who stated that Robinson had become more political in recent years,” Cox added.
A family member alerted about the plans
President Trump announced in an interview with Fox News that they already had the suspect in custody and advanced that they caught him thanks to a relative he identified as Robinson’s father.
Although at the press conference the degree of relationship of the informant was not detailed.
According to the governor, the family member recalled that at a dinner before the day of Charlie Kirk’s murder, the suspect mentioned that the commentator and close Trump ally was scheduled to attend an event at UVU.
“They talked about why they didn’t like (Kirk) and the views he had,” he added.
Cox further reported that the FBI spoke with Robinson’s roommate, 22, who showed messages from Robinson on the social streaming and gaming network Discord.
He wrote messages “indicating the need to retrieve a rifle from a drop point, leaving it in a bush.”
Robinson left clues about the rifle used
He also mentioned that the alleged killer left “messages Buzzy related to visually observing the area where a rifle was left and a message that referred to having left the rifle wrapped in a towel.”
“The messages also reference bullet engraving and a mention of a telescopic sight and that the rifle is unique,” Cox said.
Following his arrest, Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer has been booked into the Washington County Jail in southwestern Utah, where Robinson resides, the governor said, according to EFE.
