Over the years, Chiquinquirá Delgado and Jorge Ramos have established themselves as one of the most appreciated couples in the world of television.
Although both tend to keep their love life away from excessive exposure, from time to time they share small details -a photograph, a phrase in an interview or a funny story- that allow us to see what their coexistence is like. This week, Chiquinquirá attended the Inaugural Gala of ¡HOLA! magazine’s Latina Powerhouse Top 100, an event where she met with other personalities and, as it usually happens on red carpets, she also attended the media.
It was there that the presenter shared a little-known anecdote about the beginnings of her relationship with Jorge Ramos, specifically in 2011, when they were just starting to date.
During an interview with Despierta América while walking the red carpet, Chiquinquirá said that Jorge surprised her with a gift that, for many people, would be considered perfect: an elegant, exclusive and classic object.
“When I started dating Jorge he gave me a black pearl necklace,” she recounted. The choice, in theory, was logical: pearls are usually associated with sophistication and black pearls, because of their rarity, can be perceived as an even more special detail. It is easy to imagine that Jorge thought he was giving a memorable gift, one of those that usually thrills anyone.

But Chiquinquirá’s reaction was not what he expected. She herself told it with a laugh, admitting that her face betrayed her the instant she opened the package: “When I opened the gift I could not simulate my face”, she confessed, making it clear that her expression was totally transparent. However, she also clarified that this reaction was not a rejection towards him or a lack of gratitude, but a matter of personal taste.
In a straightforward manner, she explained the reason: “I’ve never liked pearls, and black pearls even less!”, she said on camera, giving the moment a funny and honest tone.
Far from becoming a conflict, the situation worked as a kind of early learning for the couple: Chiquinquirá was able to make clear what her tastes are, and Jorge had to adjust the course as any person who wants to get it right with a romantic detail.
According to her, the story ended in a simple and practical way: “The poor man had to go and return the gift,” she said, finishing off the anecdote with humor.
In the end, the episode reflects a very human dynamic: the importance of getting to know each other, of communicating preferences without drama, and of understanding that even a lavish gift may not be the right one if it doesn’t match the personality of the recipient.
