Chavez Jr. was arrested on July 2, 2025 by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at his Los Angeles residence.

The detention was due to the fact that the boxer had exceeded the time allowed by his visa and had provided false information in his application for permanent residence.

In addition, U.S. authorities link him to the Sinaloa Cartel and accuse him of arms trafficking and involvement in organized criminal activities.
