The main performances at the 96th Academy Awards gala, to be held this Sunday, March 15, will be inspired by two of the most popular movies of the season: ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ and ‘Sinners’.

“They are two of cinema’s most powerful cultural phenomena,” the ceremony’s executive producers, Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan, said in a statement.

On the one hand, ‘Sinners’, directed by Ryan Coogler, is the most nominated film in Oscar history, with 16 nominations, which has surpassed the record of 14 held until now by ‘All About Eve’ (1950), ‘Titanic’ (1997) and ‘La La Land’ (2016).

And on the other, Chris Appelhans and Maggie Kang’s ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’, “a global pop culture sensation”, which comes to the gala with two nominations, for best animated film and best song, for ‘Golden’.

“These moments in the show are more than just performances – they become cinematic tributes that celebrate the relationship between music and storytelling, and explain why these films connected so deeply with audiences around the world,” the producers added.

The ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ related performance will begin with a fusion of instrumentalists and traditional Korean dance, the cultural inspiration for the film.

In addition, Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, the voices behind the fictional group HUNTR/X, will perform the chart-topping ‘Golden’.

The ‘Sinners’ moment “explores the role of music in the film’s narrative and translates it into a live cinematic moment on the Oscar stage.”

Miles Caton and Raphael Saadiq will perform ‘I Lied to You,’ the film’s Oscar-nominated theme song. And they will be joined by Misty Copeland, Eric Gales, Buddy Guy, Brittany Howard, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Jayme Lawson, Li Jun Li, Bobby Rush, Shaboozey and Alice Smith, “in a tribute to the film’s unique visual style.”
