Andrew Lloyd Webber has surrendered to “the incredible”‘Lux‘ by Rosalía, an album that in his opinion has to be “the album of the decade” and that will be “eternal”.
In a video uploaded to his Instagram account, the composer of musicals such as ‘Evita’, ‘Cats’ or ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ is enthusiastic about the Catalan’s work, which he has already listened to five times.
“It has to be not the album of this year, but the album of the decade. It’s absolutely brilliant and the string arrangements are completely extraordinary,” says Lloyd Weber, sitting in an armchair and with a tablet in his hands from which he has listened to the album.
He describes Rosalía’s voice as “amazing” but says that what he liked most is that the album “is really musical, it has all these different tempos, it’s not limited to the four-four time signature, it has all kinds of exciting sounds”.

He also highlights the use of a string orchestra that accompanies the singer on some tracks. “I tried to use it at the time of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ with percussion and in other ways but I’ve never heard it as well recorded or as well used as on this album.”
An album for which he has decided to use the Latin pronunciation of Lux and not the phonetic ‘Lax’, which would be the way to say it in English.
“I don’t like ‘Lax’. Lux is much better because then you can say ‘Et Lux perpetua’, which means ‘Eternal Light’ and I think this album is going to be eternal,” ends the veteran composer.
The singer’s fourth studio album, released ten days ago, debuted in fourth place in the UK charts, reported Agencia EFE, making her the highest-ranking Spanish artist in history.
