During one of his performances in Mexico City as part of the +Pretty +Dirty World Tour, Colombian singer Maluma interrupted his show to confront a fan who was carrying a one-year-old baby in her arms without any kind of hearing protection.

Visibly concerned, the artist described the situation as irresponsible and appealed to his experience as a father to raise awareness about the vulnerability of children to the high decibels of a concert.

The performer, who was moved by the presence of the little boy in a space with intense sound, addressed the mother from the stage with a firm but empathetic tone:

“With all due respect… Do you think it’s a good idea to bring a one-year-old baby to a concert where the decibels are ‘fucking shitty’ and the sound is too loud? That baby doesn’t even know what he’s doing here… Next time protect his ears… Be a little more conscious,” he said.

He then clarified that as a father he would never expose his daughter Paris, born in March 2024, to such a noisy environment.

This moment was celebrated by many attendees who applauded his stance in favor of children’s health.

Many children of Latino migrants attend mass events in the U.S. without adequate protection. This gesture highlights the importance of caring for children’s hearing in noisy environments.

The problem with this show is that the event organizers and staff allowed a babe in arms to enter Maluma’s concert.

Even people were surprised at the singer’s scolding but applauded his reason for being upset.

The woman wanted to bring her baby to him but Maluma said: “No, no, leave him there, leave him there. Don’t bring him, don’t bring him”.

And he proceeded to scold her: “This is really an act of irresponsibility on your part. You are shaking him as if he were a toy, that child does not really want to be here. I say this with all affection, with all respect, since I am a father”.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warns that prolonged exposure to sounds above 85 dB can cause hearing damage, especially in children.

Some venues and organizers in the U.S. already offer free or low-cost hearing protection for children, an opportunity worth considering.

Taking children to concerts should be a thoughtful decision; the best scenario is to wait until they are old enough to understand and tolerate high sound levels.

Yo a Paris nunca la hubiera traído de un año a un concierto. Así que para la próxima sea un poco más cosciente

Video of the moment goes viral

Maluma stopped his concert in CDMX to make a real pause for the welfare of a baby who was attending without hearing protection.

From his role as a parent, he said, “Be a little more aware.”

This gesture goes beyond showmanship and resonates as a message of care and responsibility that many Latino families in the U.S. can adopt at noisy events, promoting the health and safety of the little ones.
