The version of an exhibition fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Mike Tyson with a date and venue in Africa has been circulating again in social networks. However, until the beginning of 2026 there is no official announcement confirmed by both boxers or by recognized organizations that support a fight between these two legends.

Information attributed to The Ring about an alleged April 25 fight in the Democratic Republic of Congo has not been backed up by formal statements from Mayweather’s or Tyson’s teams. For Hispanic fans in the United States – where such events generate enormous anticipation – it is key to distinguish between viral rumors and official announcements.

What is fact and what is rumor?

Until 2026, Floyd Mayweather (49 years old) continues to hold exhibition fights in different parts of the world.

A format he has used since his official retirement from professional boxing in 2017, when he left an undefeated record of 50-0 after defeating Conor McGregor.

For his part, Mike Tyson (59 years old) returned in 2020 for an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr, an event endorsed as a special bout.

Most recently, in November 2024, Tyson fought professionally against Jake Paul in Texas, a fight that was officially recorded and widely publicized.

However, there is no official confirmation of a Mayweather vs. Tyson fight for 2026.

Why is Africa mentioned?

The rumored fight between Mayweather and Tyson points to the Democratic Republic of Congo as a possible venue.

Country that hosted in 1974 the historic “Rumble in the Jungle” between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman (when it was still called Zaire).

The historical reference has fueled the nostalgic narrative in social networks.

But so far no contract has been signed and no press conference has been announced to confirm this scenario.

There is no official announcement confirmed by either boxer

The exhibition business

For the Latino community in the U.S., especially in cities such as Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami and New York, showcase events have proven to be highly profitable and media-friendly.

Mayweather has turned this format into an international business model, while Tyson has shown that it still generates enormous media interest.

If a fight between the two were to come to fruition, it would most likely be under exhibition rules and broadcast globally via streaming or pay-per-view.
