In an unusual public appearance from the White House, the first lady of the United States, Melania Trump, categorically denied having maintained a close relationship with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein and his collaborator, Ghislaine Maxwell. This statement marks her first official intervention on the subject, in an attempt to disassociate her image from one of the most notorious sex trafficking scandals of the last decade.

“The lies linking me to the infamous Jeffrey Epstein must end today,” said the first lady. During her speech, Melania Trump clarified that she did not meet her husband, President Donald Trump, through the financier, denying versions that have circulated on various information platforms and social networks for months.

“To be clear: I never had any relationship with Epstein or his accomplice, Maxwell,” said the first lady, who added that “from time to time” she and her husband were invited to the same parties “since overlap in social circles is commonplace in both New York City and Palm Beach.”

Regarding the correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell, he described it strictly as “casual exchanges” with no greater personal or professional relevance.

To put an end to speculation about her past, the first lady offered a precise chronology: she claimed to have met Donald Trump by chance at a party in 1998 and to have met Epstein for the first time until 2000, at an event she attended accompanied by the now president.

“I am not a victim of Epstein. Epstein did not introduce me to Donald Trump. I met my husband by chance at a party in New York City in 1998,” the first lady said.

Melania Trump said the first time she crossed paths with Epstein, who committed suicide in his federal prison cell in 2019, was in 2000, at an event she attended with the now U.S. president.

“At the time, I had never met Epstein and had no knowledge whatsoever of his criminal activities,” he apostatized.

Disclosure of criminal activities

In a firm and solemn tone, Melania Trump stressed that her name does not appear in any court documents, victim testimony or FBI files related to the investigation.

“My name has never appeared in court documents, affidavits, victim testimony or FBI interviews Buzzy related to the Epstein case. I never had any knowledge of Epstein’s abuse of his victims. I was never involved in any capacity. I was not a participant. I was never on Epstein’s plane or visited his private island,” she stated forcefully.

In closing his message, he urged Congress to prioritize the voice of the surviving victims, requesting a public hearing so that their testimonies could contribute to the transparency of the case.

This statement comes against a backdrop of high political pressure, following the recent dismissal of Attorney General Pam Bondi and growing citizen demands for the full release of the Epstein case files.

The issue of documents from the investigation into the late child molester has weighed heavily on the Trump administration since last summer in the face of claims that the files in the case, which appears to involve many powerful men, should be released in full.

Since last fall, the Justice Department has been forced to release hundreds of thousands of documents – censored to protect victims and to avoid undermining ongoing investigations – but this has not quelled tempers, and lingering discontent over the issue is believed to have been a factor in the recent dismissal of Attorney General Pam Bondi.
