The show of Lionel Messi moved for a night at the NFL’s Ravens stadium, and the Argentine star did not disappoint.

In front of a crowd of more than 70,000 people, Inter Miami earned a hard-fought 1-2 victory over DC United, consolidating its good start to the third day of MLS play.

Messi scores great goal in Baltimore

DC United hosted Inter Miami in Baltimore at the NFL’s 70,000-plus capacity Ravens stadium, a far cry from Washington and its Audi Field venue, which only holds 20,000.

Messi did not disappoint the fans who made the trip to Baltimore with a first touch volley goal assisted by compatriot Mateo Silvetti.

It was the second for Inter, who had taken the lead through Rodrigo de Paul.

The game became difficult for Inter Miami in the second half, with DC United closing the gap and pressing for an equalizer until the final whistle, but the Herons were unable to react.

Despite the advantage, the closing of the game was dramatic.

DC United closed the gap and smothered Miami in the final minutes.

“The feeling of not having control of the match is strange for us because we are a team that usually has it, and when we don’t have it, we feel uncomfortable. In the second half we gave up a lot of ground,” Mascherano said in a press conference, who said that his team was able to “defend the result until the end”.

Scandal in New York: 5-0 and expulsion

At Yankee Stadium, New York City FC showed Orlando City no mercy.

The game broke up in the 16th minute when the visiting goalkeeper, Maxime Crépeau, was shown a red card for handling the ball outside the area.

With an extra man, the New Yorkers’ “Argentine armada” (Agustín Ojeda, Nico Fernández and Maxi Moralez) put the game to bed before halftime, closing out a 5-0 thrashing that leaves Óscar Pareja’s team at the bottom of the table.

Other results: ‘Tata’ Martino in crisis

Saturday’s MLS matchday left other alarming data:

Atlanta United: Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino’s team lost again (2-3 against Salt Lake City) and remains without points for the season.

Nashville SC: Without James Rodriguez still on the field, they beat Minnesota 3-1 and share the lead in the East with NYCFC.

Charlotte FC: With a brace from Spaniard Pep Biel, they defeated Nico Estévez’s Austin 3-1.
