The Mexican National Team already knows its opponents in the Group Stage of the 2025 Gold Cup, a tournament that will be key in its final preparation for the 2026 World Cup. Mexico was placed in Group A, along with Costa Rica, Suriname and the Dominican Republic.
One of the special ingredients of the group will be the clash against Miguel “Piojo” Herrera, who is currently in charge of Costa Rica. Herrera, who is remembered for leading Mexico to the Brazil 2014 World Cup, will face El Tri for the first time from the opposing bench.
Debut against Costa Rica

As reigning Gold Cup champions, Mexico will play the inaugural match on June 14, 2025 at the state-of-the-art SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
This will be the last official competition for the Mexican team before its participation in the 2026 World Cup, where it has already secured its ticket as host.

Along with Mexico, the other World Cup hosts – the United States and Canada – were also seeded as group winners.
The Americans will be looking to impose conditions at home and demonstrate that they are still powers in the region.
