The 2026 Winter Olympic Games are shaping up to be one of the most important sporting events on the international calendar, and Mexico will once again be present with a delegation that reflects the country’s growth in disciplines traditionally alien to its climate. The Games will be held from February 6 to 22, 2026 under the official name of Milano-Cortina, with competitions held in different regions of northern Italy.

The Olympic venue will be shared between Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, combining urban settings with high-level alpine environments. The opening ceremony is scheduled for February 6 at the San Siro stadium, one of the most emblematic venues in Europe. In addition to these two cities, other locations such as Livigno and Predazzo will host mountain and snow sports events.

The Winter Olympic Games program will include classic disciplines such as:

Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, speed skating, ice hockey, bobsleigh, skeleton and Nordic combined, among others.

Figure skating, one of the sports with the largest global following, will take place from February 6 to 19 at the Milano Ice Skating Arena.

Among the most awaited international figures is the American Mikaela Shiffrin.

She is a benchmark in alpine skiing and one of the most dominant athletes of the last decade.

Outstanding performances are also anticipated in speed events on ice and relays.

With competitors looking to close their careers on the highest Olympic stage.

Mexico will have five athletes in three disciplines, consolidating its participation in the Olympic Winter Games despite not being a country with a winter tradition.

One of the most recognized names is Donovan Carrillo, who will compete for the second time in figure skating after his historic participation in Beijing 2022, where he captured international attention.

In cross-country skiing, Mexico will be represented by Allan Corona and Regina Martinez, the latter with a historic achievement:

She became the first Mexican woman to qualify for an Olympic cross country skiing event.

Martinez secured his place after competing in the Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim, Norway, a key event in the qualifying process.

During this competition, she participated in the 7.5 kilometer race, registering a time of 27:48.7 minutes, a result that placed her 23rd in the world, enough to meet the Olympic criteria.

In alpine skiing, Mexico will have the experience of Sarah Schleper, an athlete with extensive international experience and constant presence in high-level competitions.
