Republican Congressman Carlos Gimenez clarified this Friday that Donald Trump’s administration does not plan to deploy the National Guard in Miami as part of its tough policy against immigration and arguing criminality in jurisdictions governed by Democrats.
“Miami is not Chicago or San Francisco – and it never will be,” the U.S. congressman pointed out in X.
The politician, who represents a South Florida district, explained that the versions about a possible military intervention in the city were due to a confusion generated by the FBI director, Kash Patel, in an appearance in the Senate.
The Cuban-American politician detailed that he spoke with the Attorney General’s Office following the presentation before the Upper House by Patel, who earlier in the week erroneously stated that the deployment in Miami was underway.
National Guard already guarding Washington and other cities

“FBI Director Patel misspoke during his Senate testimony earlier this week,” the congressman stressed.
In recent months, cities such as Los Angeles and Washington D.C. have experienced an increased military presence on their streets, with National Guard deployments ordered by the Donald Trump administration.
Memphis was recently added to this panorama, where troops were also deployed at strategic points in the city, which intensifies the national debate on the growing militarization of urban spaces in the United States and its implications for civil rights, reported Agencia EFE.
