The prison system in New Orleans, Louisiana is facing a security crisis after 10 inmates were confirmed to have escaped from the Orleans Parish Justice Center on Friday. So far, only one has been recaptured and nine remain at large, according to Sheriff Susan Hutson’s Office and local media such as NOLA.com.

The escape was detected during a routine count conducted at 8:30 a.m. by prison personnel. Authorities indicated that the inmates managed to escape from their cells through defective locks and gained access to a maintenance corridor, which facilitated the escape.
