A shooting at a New York nightclub early Sunday morning, Aug. 17, left three dead and nine wounded, authorities said Sunday, as they search for several suspects and link the incident to gang violence.

The city’s mayor, Eric Adams, said at a press conference that he mobilized a team of police, religious leaders and experts to “respond to the incident and work with friends, families and victims and curb any potential retaliatory actions.”

New York Police Department (NYPD) Chief Jessica Tisch said several suspects, “up to four” opened fire at around 3:30 local time on Sunday.

The events occurred inside the Taste of the City bong club, located in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, following an apparent dispute.

The deceased are three men, aged 19, 27 and 35.

The youngest was found dead on the premises and the other two died of their injuries at the hospital.

In addition to them, nine other people were injured, authorities said.

Tisch said 42 shell casings from “various weapons” were recovered after the shooting.

He stated that everything points to gang violence, to which he attributes the majority of shootings in the city, 60 percent.

A non-fatal shooting occurred at the same club last November.

The mayor noted that this is the second mass shooting in a few weeks and pledged to put more effort into prevention.

This after a shooter opened fire in a Manhattan office building in late July, killing four people.

Another shooting left at least three injured and a suspect in custody, a 17-year-old teenager, in New York’s Times Square, unleashing chaos in one of the city’s main tourist spots.

The incident, over an alleged verbal dispute, began at the intersection of 44th Street and Seventh Avenue.

An 18-year-old woman, and two men, ages 19 and 65, were injured, the New York Police Department (NYPD) reported to the local press.

The alleged shooter was taken into police custody, while the wounded were in stable condition.

The gunfire caused hundreds of people in the area, mostly tourists, to flee the scene, according to videos shared on social networks by witnesses.

The shooting occurred nearly two weeks after the shooting that left four dead, including a police officer, in Manhattan.

On that occasion, shooter Shane Tamura, who committed suicide, shot at a skyscraper that is home to companies such as investment giant Blackstone and the offices of the National Football League (NFL).

Despite these incidents, NYPD claimed that New York had the lowest number of shootings in history in the first seven months of 2025, with 412 incidents and 489 victims, with a 26.4% year-over-year drop in murders.
