Mexico’s Secretary of Public Security, Omar García Harfuch, confirmed on Wednesday that the murder of the municipal president of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, is linked to the Jalisco Cartel – New Generation (CJNG) by announcing the arrest of one of the alleged “intellectual authors” of the crime that has provoked a wave of indignation in the country.
In a press conference, the official detailed that they have identified and arrested Jorge Armando ‘N’ as the alleged mastermind of the homicide that occurred during the Day of the Dead celebrations in that municipality in the western state of Michoacan, and linked him to a criminal group in the area linked to the CJNG.

The head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) also explained that after intelligence work, review of video surveillance cameras, interviews and technological analysis, it was possible to reconstruct the sequence of the attack.
As a result, Jorge Armando ‘N’ was arrested, who according to Harfuch was “identified as one of the intellectual authors and one of the leaders of the criminal cell that planned the murder of Carlos Manzo”.
“This arrest represents a key step in dismantling the criminal structure responsible for this attack,” he said, while reiterating that “there will be no impunity” in the operation to completely dismantle the cell will continue.
It also reported that two of those involved in the crime, identified as Fernando Josué ‘N’ and Ramiro ‘N’, were found dead on November 10 on the Uruapan-Paracho highway in the state of Michoacán (western Mexico), who accompanied the assailant Víctor Manuel ‘N’, who was killed at the scene of the crime.
García Harfuch said that the analysis of the devices confirmed the participation of the CJNG in the planning and execution of the crime.
According to the investigations, the phones revealed a messaging group where the aggression was coordinated in real time.
“Members were ordered to position themselves at different points to follow up with the mayor and share their route and schedules,” the official quoted.
He added that “Ramiro was on site to coordinate the movements” and that a subject identified as ‘El Licenciado’ issued direct instructions to carry out the execution, even pressuring the assassins to shoot regardless of whether Manzo was accompanied.
The messages also showed videos of the site minutes before and after the attack, directions for deleting conversations, coordinating escape routes and picking up participants.
Garcia Harfuch also confirmed that the criminal cell to which the detainee and the people found dead belonged is linked to a faction related to the CJNG “(it) is confirmed.
He also pointed out that Grecia Quiroz, Manzo’s widow and current municipal president of Uruapan, has security provided by the Secretariat of National Defense, in addition to the fact that the Armed Forces are deployed throughout the state.
Manzo’s murder has sparked numerous protests both in Michoacán and the rest of Mexico, amid organized crime violence in several regions of Mexico.
