The Oscars 2026 gala remembered stars who died in 2026 such as Robert Redford, filmmakers like Rob Reiner, who was murdered in December, or actresses like Diane Keaton, but forgot other artists who also died, among them Eric Dane, James Van Der Beek or Brigitte Bardot.
Although some appear on the website of the Hollywood Academy Awards as part of the list of deceased, none of them was mentioned at the gala, something that surprised and that highlights some media including‘Variety‘, as well as viewers of the ceremony on social networks.

The gala paid an emotional tribute to Reiner and Redford, to whom Barbra Streisand dedicated some heartfelt words – he was her friend – and sang a fragment of the Oscar-winning song ‘The Way We Were’, from the film with the same title and in which they shared screen.
Comedian Billy Crystal was in charge of honoring the memory of Reiner, whom he described as one of the most influential figures in Hollywood and highlighted his activism.
Along with Van Der Beek, Eric Dane and Bardot, the ceremony also made no mention of Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Robert Carradine, June Lockhart or Bud Cort, all of whom passed away in the last year.
The dramatic comedy ‘One Battle After Another’ was the big winner of the 98th edition of the Oscars, which recognized the talent of its director, Paul Thomas Anderson, one of the most prestigious directors in Hollywood but less awarded by the academy.
Anderson’s film took six Oscars to the four of the overwhelming favorite, Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners’, which arrived at the gala with the endorsement of having achieved the record number of nominations in the history of the awards, with 16 nominations.
In the international section, ‘Sentimental Value’ beat Spain’s ‘Sirat’ and Brazil’s ‘O Agente Secreto’.
