The organization of this year’s Oscar gala has increased security for the ceremony after the FBI warned California authorities about an alleged threat from Iran against the U.S. West Coast, according to local media.
The Hollywood Reporter and Variety media claim that this year’s ceremony will have more media due to this alert, to which U.S. President Donald Trump referred yesterday.
According to the president, the government is analyzing an unverified claim of a possible Iranian plot involving the use of drones launched from a ship off the coast to attack targets in California.
California Governor Gavin Newsom confirmed that federal officials alerted the state of California to this, but also indicated that there is no “imminent threat”. The FBI memo noted that the information received has not yet been verified or verified.
During Wednesday’s press conference hosted by the Oscars organization, the telecast’s executive producers, Katy Mullan and Raj Kapoor, announced that the ceremony will have increased security, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Iranian threats to U.S. set alarm bells ringing at the Oscar Awards

“We have the support of the FBI and the Los Angeles Police Department, and it’s a close collaboration,” Kapoor stated.
“This show has to run flawlessly. But we want everyone who comes to this show, those who witness it, even those who are fans of the show when they’re outside the barriers, to feel safe, secure and welcome, so it’s our job as a production team to make sure that’s reflected,” he explained.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the producers did not comment directly on the alleged FBI alert, but their comments came shortly after it was reported that the federal agency had warned California law enforcement in recent days about such a threat.
According to Variety’s sources, yesterday’s red carpet rollout saw increased security, but in a discreet manner.
The Oscar Awards will celebrate their 98th edition this Sunday at the Dolby Theater in Ovation Hollywood, in a ceremony hosted by Connan O’Brien and broadcast live on ABC and streamed on Hulu, reported Agencia EFE.
