Mexican soccer club Pachuca announced the return of Venezuelan Salomón Rondón as a hero who will reinforce the team in the Clausura 2026 tournament, which starts next January.

“The king returns. We welcome the hero who had the courage to return. Salomón Rondón,” said the team in an old-west style video welcoming the striker.

Salomón Rondón, a 36-year-old veteran, returns to Mexican soccer after playing for Spanish club Real Oviedo, a team that is part of Grupo Pachuca, which also owns the Tuzos.

At Oviedo, to which he was loaned for the 2025-2026 season, Rondón scored two goals and showed leadership as captain, which was recognized by some of the team’s young players.

Salomón Rondón experienced one of the best periods of his career in his first stint with Pachuca in the 2024 season.

With the Tuzos, he won the Concacaf Champions Cup and also helped them win the Derbi de las Américas, with a 3-0 win over Botafogo, and the FIFA Challenger, with a victory on penalties over Al-Ahly of Egypt.

In the Intercontinental Cup match played in Doha, he was part of the Tuzos that lost to Real Madrid.

The Caracas native has extensive experience with several teams around the world.

He started his career in 2006-2007 with Aragua in his country, where he was a top scorer, which catapulted him to Europe, where he played in Spain for Las Palmas and Malaga.

For the 2012-2013 season he emigrated to Russia to defend the jersey of Rubin Kazan and Zenit St. Petersburg, with whom he lifted a league title and a Super Cup.

Between 2015 and 2019 he played for West Bromwich Albion of England’s Championship and Newcastle United of the Premier League.

At the end of 2019 he traveled to Asia to play with the Chinese Dalian Pro. In 2021 he returned to Europe with CSKA Moscow.

He returned to the American continent in 2023 with Argentinean club River Plate, with whom he was champion, although he only scored four goals in 17 games.

Pachuca will make its debut in the Clausura 2026 on January 10 in a match against Guadalajara.
