The Carolina Panthers surprised on Sunday with their 31-28 victory over the Los Angeles Rams, the best team in the NFL, in Week 13 of the season.

Thanks to their win, the Panthers have a 7-6 record that keeps them in the hunt for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leader of the National Football Conference (NFC) South at 7-5, who also defeated the Arizona Cardinals 20-17 on Sunday.

Bryce Young looked good at the controls for Carolina with 206 yards per pass and three touchdown tosses.

Despite the loss, Rams’ Matthew Stafford broke Tom Brady’s record for most consecutive touchdown passes without an interception, which stood at 25; Stafford set the new mark at 28.

The Rams’ loss opened the fight for the top spot in the NFC West division, where they still hold the first place with a 9-3 record, but are being stalked by the San Francisco 49ers, with a 9-4 record, who beat the Cleveland Browns 8-26 in their game.

Another division that tightened with Sunday’s results was the American Conference South, where the Houston Texans defeated the Indianapolis Colts 16-20.

With the loss, the Colts, 8-4, dropped to second place in the division; the Texans are third at 7-5.

The Jacksonville Jaguars (8-4, but with a better record in divisional games than Indianapolis) are the new leaders thanks to their 3-25 win over the Tennessee Titans.

In other results, the Miami Dolphins picked up their third consecutive win by beating the New Orleans Saints 21-17, and the New York Jets edged the Atlanta Falcons 27-24 in the last second.

Later in the day, the Seattle Seahawks will face the Minnesota Vikings, the Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the Buffalo Bills, the Los Angeles Chargers will face the Las Vegas Raiders and the Washington Commanders will take on the Denver Broncos.

Week 13 kicked off last Thursday’s Thanksgiving celebrations.

The Green Bay Packers defeated the Detroit Lions 24-31, the Dallas Cowboys overcame the Kansas City Chiefs 31-28 and the Cincinnati Bengals surprisingly defeated the Baltimore Ravens 14-32.

On Friday, the Chicago Bears pulled off another upset with a 15-24 victory over the champion Philadelphia Eagles.

The activity will conclude this Monday, when the New England Patriots host the New York Giants.
