Toluca, coached by Argentine Antonio Mohamed, imposed their hierarchy from the start of the match, as they suffocated Tijuana in their own half, although they lacked decisiveness.

The Diablos took the lead in the 21st minute on a play initiated by Argentine Franco Romero behind the midfield.

A precise service that Marcel Ruiz controlled on the edge of the opponent’s area and extended to Paulinho’s near post movement, who shot left-footed into the net inside the six-yard box.

In the second half, the home side kept up the siege, but their strikers were unsuccessful.

Earlier in the day, Pumas UNAM recovered from a two-goal deficit to beat Puebla 2-3.
