The Detroit Pistons beat the Boston Celtics 105-112 Monday at TD Garden with a double-double from Cade Cunningham, who finished the game with 32 points and 10 assists.

It was the third head-to-head of the season between the Pistons (21-5) and Celtics (15-11), with Detroit holding a 2-1 record. The Pistons won the first crossover in October, but the Celtics took the second, knocking Detroit out of the NBA Cup.

The Pistons, with their fourth consecutive victory, continue to lead the Eastern Conference.

This after the second best start to a season in their history, second only to the 23-3 start of the 2005-06 season.

Monday’s game in Boston had 15 alternations on the scoreboard and was tied seven times.

The Celtics built a maximum 12-point lead at the start of the second quarter.

The Pistons responded with a 2-16 run to take the lead.

The Pistons took their definitive lead in the final minutes of the third quarter, but never had a comfortable cushion, with differences always less than 10 points.

In addition to Cunningham’s 32 points, Tobias Harris and Caris LeVert scored 13 points each.

The Pistons’ bench contributed 47 points to their overall tally.

For the Celtics, Jaylen Brown finished with 34 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists.

In the absence of Jayson Tatum, who has a torn Achilles tendon, Brown has taken the helm for Boston at the start of the season.

Derrick White poured in 31 points, although he was held scoreless in a loss with a minute left when Boston still trailed by five.

Spanish rookie Hugo González scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 16 minutes and 28 seconds on the court.
