Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum thanked U.S. actress Meryl Streep on Wednesday for her words of “recognition” of her figure, after she said that the North American country “left behind” the United States by having a woman president for the first time.

“First of all, I thank her for being the best actress in the world. She is a great actress and also of enormous versatility. She can play different roles and has played them throughout her artistic career. So thank her for her words and how nice that there is international recognition of what is happening in Mexico,” Sheinbaum stated in her daily press conference.

The president reacted to recent words of the actress in which she recognized the value of Mexico having a woman president for the first time in its history.

“Of course Mexico has left the United States behind by having a female president. And although it has nothing to do with gender, it’s great for little girls to know that anyone in the family can be a leader,” said Streep on a visit to Mexico City on Monday to promote the film ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, which will be released on April 30, reported Agencia EFE.
